Does Ozempic Cause ED? What the Labels and Studies Show

Short answer

Ozempic has not been established as a cause of ED: the Ozempic (semaglutide) label does not list erectile dysfunction, impotence or decreased libido, while a database study found an association that cannot prove cause and 2026 meta-analyses linked GLP-1s with better erections in men with obesity or diabetes. If erections changed after you started it, tell your prescriber and start an ED visit to ask whether treatment fits your health history.

Does Ozempic cause erectile dysfunction?

A symptom starting after a prescription deserves review, even when it is absent from the label. The Ozempic (semaglutide) label does not list ED; the semaglutide database study below found more ED diagnoses or PDE5 prescriptions in one selected group of men. Neither finding settles what caused your symptoms.

NIDDK lists diabetes, obesity, blood vessel disease and low testosterone among conditions that can lead to ED. An assessment can consider these alongside your medication history.

If diabetes is part of your history, read ED and diabetes; if desire dropped too, see low testosterone and ED.

What each GLP-1 label lists

We searched the full text of each U.S. label rather than relying on summaries. The answer is the same across semaglutide and tirzepatide products: no erectile dysfunction, impotence or libido entry.

What each GLP-1 label lists · accessed Oct 26, 2026
U.S. label (revised)Erectile dysfunction, impotence or libidoMost common reactions (≥5%)Blood pressure and fluid wording
Ozempic, semaglutide (5/2026)Not listed: no entry for erectile dysfunction, impotence, libido or sexual function“nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and constipation” (Ozempic (semaglutide) label)No hypotension entry; warns of acute kidney injury mostly in patients with “gastrointestinal reactions leading to dehydration” (Ozempic (semaglutide) label)
Wegovy, semaglutide (6/2026)Not listedNausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, headache, fatigue, dizziness and others (Wegovy (semaglutide) label)Hypotension-related reactions in 1.3% of adults vs 0.4% on placebo; “more frequently seen in patients on concomitant antihypertensive therapy” (Wegovy (semaglutide) label)
Mounjaro, tirzepatide (8/2026)Not listed“nausea, diarrhea, decreased appetite, vomiting, constipation, dyspepsia, and abdominal pain” (Mounjaro (tirzepatide) label)No hypotension entry; same dehydration and kidney warning (Mounjaro (tirzepatide) label)
Zepbound, tirzepatide (8/2026)Not listedNausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, fatigue, hair loss and others (Zepbound (tirzepatide) label)Hypotension 1.6% vs 0.1% on placebo; it “also occurred in association with gastrointestinal adverse events and dehydration” (Zepbound (tirzepatide) label)

Sources: Ozempic (semaglutide) label, Novo Nordisk, 5/2026; Wegovy (semaglutide) label, Novo Nordisk, 6/2026; Mounjaro (tirzepatide) label, Eli Lilly, 8/2026; Zepbound (tirzepatide) label, Eli Lilly, 8/2026. Full label text searched for “erectile”, “impotence”, “libido” and “sexual”. Accessed Oct 26, 2026.

“Not listed” means the terms were absent from the label text we checked; it does not mean zero risk. The Wegovy (semaglutide) label and Zepbound (tirzepatide) label report hypotension in their clinical trials; these figures come from separate trials and should not be used to rank the drugs against each other.

Semaglutide, tirzepatide and ED: what studies in men show

The research points in both directions, and none of it proves cause. The two database studies in this table are observational; the randomized trial tested lifestyle weight loss. The newer pooled evidence appears in the next section.

Esposito et al., JAMA 2004 (diet and exercise, no GLP-1)110 men with obesity and ED, without diabetesErectile function score rose from 13.9 to 17 over 2 years with weight loss, vs 13.5 to 13.6 in controlsLifestyle weight loss, not a GLP-1 medicine

Read the outcome before the headline. The semaglutide study counted a new ED diagnosis or a PDE5 prescription, not only confirmed diagnoses, and its findings in men without diabetes do not automatically apply to every GLP-1 user (Able et al.; Ozempic (semaglutide) label). The lifestyle trial supports diet and exercise as a separate line of evidence; it does not establish an ED benefit for semaglutide.

What the newest studies say (October 2026)

Two 2026 meta-analyses point the other way from the 2025 database study: in men with obesity or type 2 diabetes, GLP-1 drugs were linked with better erections and higher testosterone. Both pooled small studies, so they show an association, not proof, and neither makes Ozempic an ED treatment. The Ozempic (semaglutide) label and Wegovy (semaglutide) label do not list erectile dysfunction as an indication.

Figures as reported in each abstract; SMD = standardized mean difference, not IIEF points or a percentage of men helped. Label boundary: Ozempic (semaglutide) label; Wegovy (semaglutide) label. Accessed Oct 26, 2026.

What this means for you: the 2026 meta-analyses and the 2025 database study looked at different men and different outcomes, so neither settles the question. The J Sex Med abstract calls for further randomized trials; the Ozempic (semaglutide) label still does not list ED, testosterone or libido effects. If erections are the problem now, ED treatment is assessed separately from your GLP-1, and the online visit is one way to start.

Keep the outcomes separate: an erection score, a testosterone blood test and interest in sex answer different questions. Tell the provider which change you noticed rather than assuming one explains the others.

Can you take Viagra or Cialis with Ozempic?

Taking a GLP-1 does not replace the need for an individual ED medication review. Neither the Viagra (sildenafil) label nor Cialis (tadalafil) label names semaglutide, tirzepatide or GLP-1 in its interaction text; that absence is not clearance to combine medicines.

Blood pressure is the overlap to discuss. The Viagra (sildenafil) label advises caution with anti-hypertensives because combined use may lead to hypotension, and the Cialis (tadalafil) label gives a similar warning. On the GLP-1 side, the Wegovy (semaglutide) label and Zepbound (tirzepatide) label report hypotension more often than placebo, especially with blood pressure medicine or dehydration.

The Ozempic (semaglutide) label and Mounjaro (tirzepatide) label say these drugs delay gastric emptying and may affect absorption of oral medicines; they do not name ED tablets. Sildenafil and tadalafil are contraindicated with nitrates (Viagra (sildenafil) label; Cialis (tadalafil) label). Read ED and blood pressure and ED medication and nitrates.

What to bring to your prescriber or ED visit

Do not stop or change a GLP-1 on your own because of ED. Ask the clinician who prescribes it; the Ozempic (semaglutide) label and Zepbound (tirzepatide) label describe side effects such as nausea, vomiting and dehydration that are worth reporting too.

Prepare a short note with the medicine name, start date, prescription changes, symptom timeline, and every other medicine or supplement. Include nausea, vomiting or dizziness if present (Ozempic (semaglutide) label; Zepbound (tirzepatide) label); NIDDK’s ED assessment guidance explains why medication and sexual histories matter.

Useful questions: “Could the GLP-1, the weight change or an underlying condition explain this?” and “Would an ED prescription fit my health history?” Read can ED be reversed? for questions about underlying causes.

Safety checks before ED medication

If you use medicine for GLP-1 nausea, name it in your intake. The APOKYN (apomorphine) label contraindicates apomorphine with 5HT3 antagonists such as ondansetron because profound low blood pressure and loss of consciousness have been reported; Mendoxa’s compounded tablet contains apomorphine. This check is separate from the interaction review for sildenafil or tadalafil (Viagra (sildenafil) label; Cialis (tadalafil) label).

Do not add another ED medicine to an existing treatment on your own: the Viagra (sildenafil) label and Cialis (tadalafil) label say combinations with other PDE5 inhibitors or ED therapies have not been studied and advise against such use.

The tablet combines sildenafil, tadalafil and apomorphine; it is not FDA-approved. Ingredient references are the Viagra (sildenafil) label, Cialis (tadalafil) label and APOKYN (apomorphine) label; APOKYN is an injectable Parkinson’s treatment, and its label is not approval of this ED combination.

FAQ

Does Ozempic cause impotence in men?

Impotence is not listed in the Ozempic (semaglutide) label or Wegovy (semaglutide) label. A 2025 database study found more new ED diagnoses or PDE5 prescriptions in men without diabetes prescribed semaglutide, but it shows an association, not cause; obesity and diabetes are themselves common ED causes (NIDDK).

Does Mounjaro cause erectile dysfunction?

The Mounjaro (tirzepatide) label and Zepbound (tirzepatide) label do not list erectile dysfunction or libido changes. In a 2025 study of men with type 2 diabetes, tirzepatide was associated with lower ED risk than sitagliptin, semaglutide or dulaglutide; the authors say randomized trials are needed.

Can you take Viagra with Ozempic?

The Viagra (sildenafil) label and Cialis (tadalafil) label list no GLP-1 interaction, but both warn that use with blood pressure medicines may lead to hypotension. The Wegovy (semaglutide) label reports more hypotension than placebo, so a provider should review your blood pressure and every medicine first.

Does Ozempic affect sex drive?

Decreased libido is not listed in the Ozempic (semaglutide) label. That does not rule out an individual change. Describe whether you mean less desire, trouble getting or keeping an erection, or both. For recurring erection difficulties, why you cannot stay hard can help you prepare for the visit.

Can weight loss pills cause erectile dysfunction?

Yes, some can: the phentermine hydrochloride label lists impotence and changes in libido. Evidence about semaglutide cannot answer for every weight-loss pill. The Ozempic (semaglutide) label and Wegovy (semaglutide) label do not list ED as an indication or adverse reaction. Bring the product name and symptom timeline to your prescriber, and ask for a separate ED assessment if erections remain a concern.

Does Ozempic help ED or raise testosterone?

It is not an ED treatment: the Ozempic (semaglutide) label and Wegovy (semaglutide) label do not list ED as an indication. Two 2026 meta-analyses pooling small studies of 375 and 470 men (Corona et al.; Lima et al.) linked GLP-1 drugs with better erectile function scores and higher total testosterone in men with obesity or type 2 diabetes; these pooled findings do not prove an individual benefit, and the J Sex Med abstract calls for further randomized trials.

Will losing weight on a GLP-1 improve my erections?

It may for some men, but it cannot be promised. A JAMA trial of lifestyle weight loss improved erectile function in about one third of men with obesity; no GLP-1 label lists ED as an indication (Ozempic (semaglutide) label; Zepbound (tirzepatide) label).

Can I get ED treatment online while taking a GLP-1?

Yes, you can start an online visit and disclose your GLP-1 and all other medicines; prescribing depends on the provider’s review, including the precautions in the Viagra (sildenafil) label and Cialis (tadalafil) label. Independent licensed providers assess suitability. Prescription required. Mendoxa’s compounded tablet is not FDA-approved; the ingredient labels do not establish the safety or effectiveness of that combination.
