Beet Juice for ED: What the Research Actually Shows

Short answer

Beet juice has not been shown to treat erectile dysfunction: our PubMed search on Oct 31, 2026 found no human ED trial. Its dietary nitrate can become nitric oxide and lowered blood pressure in short trials, but that does not establish an erection benefit or the safety of combining it with ED medicine (see the Viagra (sildenafil) label).

Does beet juice help erectile dysfunction?

A blood pressure result does not tell you whether a drink helps you get or keep an erection. Beet juice supplies dietary inorganic nitrate; a physiology review explains its conversion through nitrite to nitric oxide. The Viagra (sildenafil) label describes nitric oxide release during sexual stimulation, but this shared pathway does not establish beet juice as an ED treatment.

High blood pressure is among the conditions NIDDK links to ED. Treating recurring erection problems starts with understanding the cause; a change in a blood pressure reading cannot answer that question. Explore ED and blood pressure and nitric oxide and ED for the wider context.

How we checked: on Oct 31, 2026, the saved PubMed searches used “(beetroot OR beet OR dietary nitrate OR inorganic nitrate) AND (erectile OR erection)” and “(beetroot OR beet) AND erectile dysfunction AND (randomized OR trial).” We checked the returned titles and relevant abstracts; none established a human beet juice ED trial. This describes what our search found, rather than proving that no study could exist elsewhere.

There is no established beet juice amount or timing for ED. The blood pressure interventions above are research protocols, not directions for treating erections. For prescription treatment, the Viagra (sildenafil) label and Cialis (tadalafil) label provide drug-specific information; they do not validate a beet juice regimen.

Beet juice with Viagra or Cialis: what the labels say

The labels do not name beet juice; that is not a safety clearance. The Viagra (sildenafil) label contraindicates nitric oxide donors such as organic nitrates or organic nitrites in any form. The Cialis (tadalafil) label contraindicates any form of organic nitrate; its patient information names nitroglycerin, isosorbide medicines and recreational “poppers.”

Dietary inorganic nitrate, studied in the beetroot meta-analysis, differs from the organic nitrate medicines named in the Viagra (sildenafil) label and Cialis (tadalafil) label. Our research did not identify a study of beet juice taken with either drug, so label silence cannot establish the combination’s safety or benefit.

Bring beet juice and powders up during your medication review. The Viagra (sildenafil) label and Cialis (tadalafil) label warn that these drugs can increase the blood-pressure-lowering effects of antihypertensive medicines. Beet juice lowered blood pressure in a hypertension trial; this is a reason to discuss your routine, not evidence of a tested beet juice–drug interaction. Read ED medication and nitrates and Viagra, Cialis and blood pressure.

Who should be careful with beet juice

  • You take blood pressure or ED medicine. Ask your prescriber to review regular beet juice or powder use alongside your medicines. The Viagra (sildenafil) label and Cialis (tadalafil) label describe interactions with antihypertensives and contraindications with organic nitrate medicines.
  • You have had calcium oxalate stones. The University of Iowa handout lists beets as high in oxalate. NIDDK recommends discussing food sources of oxalate with a health care professional; ask how regular beet juice fits your stone-prevention advice.

Beetroot supplements are a separate question from juice: FDA does not have the authority to approve dietary supplements before they are marketed (FDA dietary supplement Q&A). See supplements for ED before buying one.

What has evidence for ED instead

Start with an ED assessment and practical lifestyle changes. NIDDK lists quitting smoking, limiting alcohol, increasing activity, maintaining a healthy weight and healthy eating as ways to help ED symptoms.

Oral PDE5 inhibitors are prescription medicines studied in ED clinical trials; both the Viagra (sildenafil) label and Cialis (tadalafil) label say they need sexual stimulation to work. NIDDK also advises talking with a health care professional before using dietary supplements for ED (NIDDK).

For practical steps, read foods for erections, exercise for ED, home remedies for ED and how to get harder erections.

Safety checks before ED medication

Do not add another ED medicine to an existing treatment on your own: the Viagra (sildenafil) label and Cialis (tadalafil) label say combinations with other PDE5 inhibitors or ED therapies have not been studied and advise against such use. See ED medication and nitrates for more detail.

If ED is the problem you want treated now

Mendoxa offers a compounded rapid-dissolve tablet containing sildenafil, tadalafil and apomorphine. It is not FDA-approved. The Viagra (sildenafil) label, Cialis (tadalafil) label and APOKYN (apomorphine) label concern separate products; APOKYN is an injectable Parkinson’s treatment, and its label is not approval of this ED combination.

FAQ

Does beet juice help ED?

It has not been shown to. Beet juice lowered systolic blood pressure in trials (Siervo et al.), but our PubMed search on Oct 31, 2026 found no trial measuring erections after beet juice.

How to stay hard without Viagra?

Start by discussing the cause of recurring ED. NIDDK recommends lifestyle changes including physical activity, quitting smoking and limiting alcohol. Beet juice has no demonstrated erection benefit in our search; see home remedies for ED for practical next steps.

Is it good to drink beet juice daily?

Daily beetroot juice for 4 weeks was reported as well tolerated in a hypertension trial, and a 2024 meta-analysis rated the blood pressure evidence as low certainty. Beets are on a high-oxalate food list, which matters if you form oxalate stones.

How to increase erection time?

Beet juice has no established amount, onset or duration of benefit for ED in the research we found. If keeping an erection is the issue, discuss it with a clinician; the Viagra (sildenafil) label and Cialis (tadalafil) label describe prescription treatments that require sexual stimulation. Do not combine ED medicines on your own: both labels advise against combinations with other ED therapies.

What are the benefits of taking beetroot supplements for men?

For this ED question, the clearest distinction is between blood pressure and erections: a beetroot juice meta-analysis found lower clinic systolic blood pressure with low-certainty evidence, not an ED benefit. Its juice findings do not establish that every powder or capsule works. FDA does not approve dietary supplements before marketing; discuss them with your clinician and read supplements for ED.

Can I drink beet juice with Viagra or Cialis?

The Viagra (sildenafil) label and Cialis (tadalafil) label do not name beet juice. Their contraindications concern organic nitrate medicines and related nitric oxide donors, including examples such as nitroglycerin and “poppers.” Both labels warn about added blood pressure lowering with antihypertensive medicines. Tell your prescriber about beet juice or powders; absence from the labels is not proof that a combination is safe.

How we wrote this

Written by the Mendoxa editorial team · Sources: DailyMed/FDA. Medical facts on this page come from the FDA-approved labels on DailyMed and Drugs@FDA; each drug name links to its label. We checked the saved PubMed search results and study abstracts on Oct 31, 2026, and rechecked the cited blood pressure studies online. The evidence table distinguishes study populations, interventions and endpoints; it does not convert blood pressure changes into erection claims. Drug labels describe separate approved products and do not establish the safety or effectiveness of Mendoxa’s compounded combination (FDA compounding Q&A).
