Newer ED options at a glance: October 2026
When you search for new ED medication, check what changed: the ingredient, the way you take it, or its regulatory status. Start with the comparison below, then use the decision guide to prepare your questions.
Sources: linked DailyMed labels, FDA NDA 210858, FDA DEN220078 and the 2021 SMSNA position statement on PubMed; no FDA ED authorization for the research-stage procedures was identified in this source check. Accessed October 21, 2026. Timing entries describe different measures and are not a head-to-head comparison.
For the broader list, see ED medications compared.
What is actually new—and what the format tells you
A film has its own approval. FDA classifies VYBRIQUE (sildenafil) as a new dosage form, rather than a new active ingredient. The VYBRIQUE (sildenafil) label directs placement on the tongue, followed by swallowing with saliva; it does not require water.
A dissolving format does not establish faster action. The VYBRIQUE (sildenafil) instructions still use about an hour before sex. Treat “rapid-dissolve” as a description of format unless the specific product has evidence supporting a timing claim.
A gel is a different regulatory category. FDA describes Eroxon as a non-medicated Class II device, indicated for men aged 22 and over, with OTC labeling. Its trial timing in the table is an observation, not the same measure as a pill’s dosing instruction.
An approved generic differs from a compounded product. FDA distinguishes approved generics from compounded medicines, which are not FDA-approved. Explore sublingual ED tablets and combination ED tablets before choosing a format.
What each path includes: choose your next conversation
Use your main priority to narrow the discussion. The questions below help you compare the care involved as well as the product.
| Your priority | Path and what it includes | Question to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Avoid a prescription | Eroxon: OTC gel with package instructions; a prescription consultation is not required. | Do I meet the package eligibility criteria? |
| Avoid swallowing a tablet | VYBRIQUE (sildenafil): prescription oral film; compare with a compounded dissolving format, which is not FDA-approved. | Why does this format suit my needs? |
| Shorter advance timing | STENDRA (avanafil): prescriber assessment and pharmacy dispensing; label timing depends on strength. | Which label instructions apply to my prescription? |
| A wider timing window | Tadalafil: as-needed and daily regimens have different instructions; prescriber chooses the regimen. | Which regimen fits my routine and medical history? |
| Discuss injections | CAVERJECT (alprostadil): initial in-office injections and dose adjustment, followed by training for home use. | What training, follow-up and emergency instructions are included? |
| Explore Mendoxa | Online intake and independent licensed provider review; compounded rapid-dissolve tablet if prescribed. Prescription required. | Is a compounded format appropriate for my medical needs? |

Where the Mendoxa 3-in-1 rapid-dissolve tablet fits
Mendoxa offers a compounded tablet containing sildenafil, tadalafil and apomorphine that dissolves under the tongue (Mendoxa product details); it is not FDA-approved. Prescription required. Independent licensed providers decide whether prescribing is appropriate.
The ingredient labels are references, not approval of this combination: APOKYN (apomorphine) is labeled for a Parkinson’s injection, not ED. The Viagra (sildenafil) label does not recommend combining it with other ED therapies because safety and efficacy have not been studied and blood pressure may fall further.
The Mendoxa assessment is free to start and asks about symptoms, health history and medicines. Bring your questions about why a compounded product is appropriate for you; a prescription is not automatic. The single pricing table below shows the available quantities and billing periods.

Shockwave and PRP: check the ED indication
We did not identify an FDA-approved ED indication for shockwave therapy or PRP/P-shot in the sources checked. The 2021 SMSNA position statement, indexed by NIH/PubMed, reserves these restorative approaches for clinical trials rather than routine care; this is dated guidance, not a new 2026 approval.
Ask the clinic for the exact device or product name and the FDA record showing an ED indication. FDA explains that device marketing pathways depend on classification and intended use; a general statement that equipment is “FDA registered” does not answer that question.
If a clinic proposes research, ask about the study protocol, oversight, uncertainties and your total costs. NIH/NIDDK explains how to find ED clinical studies and advises discussing participation with a health care provider.
Safety checks before trying new ED meds
Nitrates: they are contraindicated with sildenafil, tadalafil and avanafil; show the prescriber your complete medicine list, including medicines used only occasionally.
Blood pressure: the avanafil label warns of added blood-pressure lowering with alpha-blockers, antihypertensives and alcohol. Read ED and nitrates and ED and blood pressure.
Emergency threshold: seek immediate medical help for an erection lasting more than 4 hours, per the sildenafil and alprostadil labels; these labels warn about priapism.
Gel irritation: FDA’s Eroxon summary says to stop if irritation occurs and seek medical attention if it continues.

FAQ
What is the latest treatment for erectile dysfunction in 2026?
A recent approved option is VYBRIQUE (sildenafil) oral film, approved December 16, 2025. Eroxon’s OTC device authorization dates to June 9, 2023; “new” can refer to a format or access route, so check the specific FDA record.
Can I buy Eroxon without a prescription?
Yes: FDA’s Eroxon decision summary supports over-the-counter labeling for men aged 22 and over. It is a topical device; read the package eligibility and use instructions.
Does dissolving ED medicine work faster than Viagra?
A dissolving format alone does not establish faster onset: the VYBRIQUE (sildenafil) label gives approximately 1 hour before sex. Compounded tablets have no FDA-approved label timing, and FDA says they are not FDA-approved; do not transfer another product’s timing to them.
Is avanafil a new ED medicine, and how fast is it?
STENDRA (avanafil) has an initial US approval date of 2012. Its label permits 100 or 200 mg about 15 minutes before sex and 50 mg about 30 minutes before; this is dosing guidance, not evidence that it outperforms every alternative.
Is shockwave or the P-shot FDA-approved for ED?
We did not identify an FDA-approved ED indication for either in the sources checked. The 2021 SMSNA position statement on NIH/PubMed reserves restorative therapies for clinical trials; ask the clinic for its exact FDA record and research protocol.
Can I combine sildenafil and tadalafil myself?
The Viagra (sildenafil) label does not recommend combining ED therapies because safety and efficacy have not been studied and blood pressure may fall further; discuss tadalafil use with your prescriber. Mendoxa’s combination is compounded and not FDA-approved; prescription required, with assessment by independent licensed providers.

How we wrote this
Written by the Mendoxa editorial team · Sources: DailyMed/FDA. Medical facts on this page come from the FDA-approved labels on DailyMed and Drugs@FDA; each drug name links to its label. We checked the linked records on October 21, 2026 and separated approval dates, dosage forms and research-stage procedures. Label instructions, trial observations and duration of benefit are identified separately; they cannot establish which option works best for an individual.
